2. Summary

CamperPilot is built to collect as little data as possible. The app has no user accounts and no sign-in. There is no advertising, no tracking and no analytics. Vehicle data such as battery level and range is processed exclusively inside the vehicle and is never transmitted to us or to third parties. Your location is used only inside the vehicle; we do not receive it. When the app downloads its places database, only the technically necessary IP address reaches our server.

3. Data processed when you use the app

3.1 Downloading the places database

The app downloads a database of overnight locations, ferry connections and charging information from our server (api.camperpilot.eu), hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH (server location: Helsinki, Finland, EU). The download produces technical log entries containing the vehicle's IP address and the time of access. The request carries no identifiers, no account and no location — no movement profile can be derived from these logs. The purpose is providing the app's functions and securing the service (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Logs are kept only briefly and are overwritten automatically.

3.2 Map display

To draw the map, the app loads map tiles from CARTO (basemaps.cartocdn.com) and, as a fallback, from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org). For technical reasons these providers receive the IP address and the coordinates of the requested map tiles, from which the approximate region being viewed can be inferred. Downloaded tiles are cached inside the vehicle so repeated requests are avoided. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

3.3 Address search

Only when you actively search for an address or place is the text you typed sent to the Nominatim geocoding service of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom; transfer based on the EU Commission's adequacy decision). Searching the stored overnight locations happens entirely locally inside the vehicle.

3.4 Vehicle data

After you grant permission via the vehicle system's permission dialog, the app reads battery level, range and battery capacity directly from the vehicle. This data is used exclusively locally for display and trip planning and is never transmitted to us or to third parties.

3.5 Location

The app uses the vehicle's last known position for nearby search, map centring and as an optional starting point for trip planning. Processing takes place exclusively inside the vehicle. Without location permission the app falls back to a coarse approximation (centre of Germany). Details are set out in the Location Service Terms.

3.6 Trip planning

All trip-planning calculations (charging stops, battery level on arrival, overnight consumption, ferries, tolls) are performed entirely inside the vehicle.

4. Storage inside the vehicle

The places database and the map cache are stored in the app's protected storage inside the vehicle. Uninstalling the app deletes this data.

5. Recipients

Hetzner Online GmbH (hosting, data processing agreement), CARTO and the OpenStreetMap Foundation (map and search services, see above). Data is never shared for advertising purposes or sold.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). Please contact the address above. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Data Protection Commissioner of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW), Germany.

7. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making and no profiling take place.

8. Changes

We will update this policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
